Icelandic Sheepdogs in Canada We are proud to show our Icelandic Sheepdogs in Quebec, Ontario, Alberta We show mainly around the Montreal, Ottawa, Cornwall, Kingston, and Toronto Area at this time. I am often asked questions about the ISD and what our standard says in regards to Coat Type and Patterns I thought it would be helpful to create a indepth look at these questions on the website. Unless Noted, all Dogs shown are Greenstone Icelandics.

Short Hair - Adult Male - Red Sable with White You can see how short the hair is behind the ears and front legs, this is a very! good example of a nice in coat male Short Haired ISD. Like most breeds, the females tend to carry less coat, and have less ruff.

Short Hair - Eight Month old Male Pup- Wheaten with White I thought it was well worth showing what a puppy coat looks like in our breed as well.. it does take time for our boys ruffs and fullness of coat to develop. but you can still see how nice and short behind the ear/front legs.

What I like about this set of photos is that you can clearly see as per the standard, both dogs have Shorter hair on the face, Top of Head, but as per the standard, the Long Haired dogs has longer hair behind the ears and a much fuller coat on the Neck.
Color Per the CKC Offical Iceland Sheepdog Standard. Colour: Several colours are premitted but a single colour should alwyas be predominant. The predominant colors are : Various shades of tan, Ranging from Cream to Reddish Brown Chocolate Brown, Grey, an Black White Always Accompanies the predominant colour. The most common white markings, which are often irregular, are a blaze or a part of the face, Collar, chest, Socks of varying length and tip of tail. Lighter shading often occurs on the underside of the dog from throat to tip of tail. On tan and grey dogs, a black mask, black tips to the outer hairs and even occasinal black hairs often occur. Black Tricolor dogs ahve a black coat, white markings as mentioned above and traditional marknigs in any of the various tan colors on the cheeks, over the eyes (eyebrows) and on the legs. Patches of the above colors on a white background (pied) are permitted. White should NOT be totally predominant. The examples of the dogs above, are also very good at showing the typical white markings within our breed, almost all of them have the most standard colors in our breed, blazes, collars, socks and white tail tips, the Red Sable Pied male is a excellent example of a correct to standard, Pied Marked Dog, as he clearly is not predominatly white.
